"From Me To You"
Valentine Cards
|

In February 2008, JenuineTech.com sponsored a project called "From Me To You". It was just like the holiday card exchange we participated in at Christmas time. For this event, each classroom was partnered with 22 other classrooms PLUS 3 other locations (such as a children's hospital, or veteran's hospital). As a class we created 25 cards and sent one to each location on our list. We also made a travel folder (brochure) to send with every card. We included information about our school, our classroom, our city and our state.
To make the travel folders, we started by getting all the pieces ready by drawing, coloring and cutting. We knew we had a big job to do and the fastest way to complete it with the fewest defects would be as an assembly line. It worked great! Each of us colored one part of the brochure. We've been learning about unit production and assembly line production in Junior Achievement thanks to Mrs. Pope so this was a great way to test the differences. When it was time to put the folders together, we used unit production and every student built one folder.
As our valentines poured in from around the country, it was fun to find the states on a map. One of the classes was on our Holiday Card Exchange list too. They live in Connecticut. We hope the card we sent to the Ronald McDonald House in Seattle, Washington, made a family smile and have a happy day even though we've never met. We know how much we like getting mail and we think a family with a sick child would really like to get a surprise like our valentine.

191 classes in 35 states and two Canadian provinces were involved in this card exchange. That's a lot of kids sending good wishes and smiles around the country! |

Here's what our travel folders look like:
|
This is the cover of our travel folder. It shows where Las Vegas is located in Nevada. |
The information page was on the back. It had some facts about Las Vegas. |
Information about our school and our classroom was also on the back of our folder. |
When people fly into Las Vegas they can see Hoover Dam from the airplane. It's huge! |
Most of our hotels and casinos are on The Strip. 15 of the 20 largest hotels in the world are in Las Vegas. |
Fremont Street is downtown Las Vegas. It's the oldest part of our town. The light show is fun to watch! |
